A measure towards SPAM protection.
IP Whitelisting has been introduced as a security measure so that emails can only be sent from IP addresses that you Authorize.
Malware, Viruses, Phishing websites and many other such unwanted elements in internet can steal your data and email credentials. The email credentials i.e the emailid and password are sufficient for anyone to send illegitimate and purporting emails on your behalf. Usually such emails and passwords are used for sending bulk SPAM emails which are unsolicited. Sometime they are used for criminal activities like sending SCAM emails. All they need is your Emailid and password.
Every sender of an email uses an internet connection. The internet connection provider provides unique IP addresses to each of its customer. So if an IP is provided to you the same IP cannot be provided to another person. When you whitelist your IP with a method and URL that we are sharing with you, only you can manually whitelist that IP and will be able to send emails. If a spammer/scammer even if gets hold of your password, he or she cannot send the email as the system will allow to send email only from whitelisted IPs.
Unfortunately No.
