How do I enable SSL encryption in Outlook to use secure IMAP, POP3 and SMTP?

This article tells you how to enable SSL encryption for SSL POP3, SSL IMAP and SSL SMTP in Outlook 2016, 2010 and 2007.

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click File > Account Settings > Account Settings…
  3. Select your Email account and click Change…
  4. Change the following settings:
    Incoming mail server:
    Enter example.com, replacing example.com with your domain name.
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
    Enter example.com, replacing example.com with your domain name.
  5. Click More Settings …
  6. Click the Advanced tab.
  7. Change the following settings:

    IMAP accounts

    Incoming Server (IMAP) – Use the following type of encrypted connection: Select SSL
    Outgoing Server (SMTP) – Use the following type of encrypted connection: Select SSL

    POP3 accounts

    Incoming Server (POP3) – This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): Checked
    Outgoing Server (SMTP) – Use the following type of encrypted connection: Select SSL
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Finish
